ASC – Aquaculture Stewardship Council
The Aquaculture Stewardship Council is an independent, international not-for-profit organization that administers the world’s leading certification and labeling program for responsible aquaculture.

About the standard
The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standards, fisheries, and Chain of Custody (CoC) certification help businesses and organizations promote and identify responsibly farmed seafood. The CoC certification process covers seafood “from farm to fork” to ensure the traceability of all products.
Principles
The ASC standards cover the following principles:
-
Animal health (no unnecessary use of antibiotics and chemicals).
-
Responsible use of feed and other resources.
-
Legal compliance (operating within the law and having the legal right to be where they are).
-
Social responsibility (e.g., no child labor, worker health and safety, freedom of association, and community relations).
-
Preservation of the natural environment and biodiversity.
-
Preservation of water resources.
-
Preservation of species diversity and wild populations (e.g., preventing escapes that could threaten wild fish).
